Around the Diocese
Becoming Christ-centered families
In the parish newsletter at Holy Rosary Church, Evansville, Father Bernie Etienne, pastor, writes about Christ-centered families.
“We are challenged to recognize that holiness should not be equated with perfection. Likewise, it is not realistic to expect that our family be perfect. However, all of us are called to holiness as a family of birth and our parish family.”
He encouraged his parishioners to embrace the call to a “greater aspiration toward holiness in your and our family in 2010.
“At the heart of this challenge you might consider the inclusion of three goals: first, to put Christ at the center of all that you do as a family; second, to love as Christ loved, starting with your family; third, to allow a posture of deep and abiding respect to permeate your family relationships.”
The newsletter article suggested ideas on “how to be a Christ-centered family.”
- Include prayer in family time;
- Bless family members, every day in simple, loving ways;
- Respect family members by listening, encouraging, supporting and loving each other when it’s easy and when it’s hard.
