Father Jean Vogler notes 40 years in priesthood
By PAUL R. LEINGANG (Message editor)
Father Jean Vogler was ordained 40 years ago on Feb. 28, 1970, and celebrated with family and friends on Sunday, Feb. 28 this year.
They joined him for Mass at Holy Trinity Church and for a reception at St. Joseph Church, both in Evansville.
Father Vogler reflected on the assignments he had in his minstry, and noted that there were “people from all of them” who came to celebrate his anniversary with him.
It was “fabulous,” he said in a telephone interview the day after the celebration.
“I have just been so fortunate, really,” he said. “I never asked for an assignment. I never re-fused an assignment. I never asked to be moved. And every single one of them turned out to be great.
Father Vogler’s assignments have included associate pastor positions at St. Theresa and Christ the King in Evansville and St. James Church in Haubstadt. He was director of the Catholic Communications Office for the diocese and he taught at Memorial High School in Evansville.
He served as pastor of Holy Redeemer Church in Evansville, St. Mary Church in Sullivan and St. Joan of Arc in Jasonville, St. Boniface Church in Evansville and Holy Rosary Church in Evansville.
He was assigned to Holy Trinity Church in Evansville in May 1999, adding responsibility for the permananet diaconate office in 2001 and serving as sacramental minister at St. Joseph Church in Evansville since September 2007.
Any advice for those considering priesthood? “I have enjoyed it. Every day is different. If that is what you are interested in, it is an interesting life.”
What’s next? “Whatever is God’s will.”
