Catholic high school boards move ahead, to begin search for executive director positions

The search for executive directors for Mater Dei and Memorial high school will begin soon, according to Andy Goebel. Goebel, retired president and COO of Vectren Corporation, and a long-time member of the ECIHS Board of Trustees, has assumed Donald Rupprecht’s responsibilities during the transition to the new governance/leadership model.

Since their appointment by Bishop Gerald A. Gettelfinger earlier this year, members of both new boards have met, elected officers and committee chairs and are in the process of forming search committees.

The transition from the Evansville Catholic Interparochial High School board to the new model was announced on the school websites Dec. 10.

The members of the new Mater Dei High School Board of Trustees and the Memorial High School Board of Trustees were announced Jan. 30.

Within the next two weeks, details will be available on the websites, providing descriptions of the position, qualifications and other information required in the search for the new positions — an executive director at each of the schools.

The two sites are www.materdeiwildcats.com and www.reitzmemorial.org.

Expansion of worship space at St. John, Daylight

“With an ever-growing church population and an increased church attendance, just like the walls of Jericho, two interior walls at St. John’s are coming down.” That was the front page report in the latest newsletter of St. John the Evangelist Church in Daylight.

Father John Silva, pastor of the parish, noted that the removal of the back wall was “a provision foreseen by the original architecht and construction oversight committee.”

Father Silva also noted that the Daylight Discovery Preschool is planning to accommodate additional children, and will add an additional teacher and an assistant.

Habitat reports on year’s successes

A recent report from Habitat for Humanity of Evansville noted that 24 homes had been built in the fiscal year 2008-2009, and that a new development is planned in 2010, to be known as Shadewood Place, next to Glenwood Middle School in Evansville.
