Around 80 cub scouts participated in the 2010 Faith Day at locations in Jasper and Evansville March 5 – 12 at the Catholic Center in Evansville and 19 at St. Meinrad Archabbey.
Among activities was a craft. Scouts used beads, a cross and other items to fashion a new neckerchief slide.
Participating scouts earned a patch, which was designed by Chad Sergesketter. Each year, the patch design is based on the theme of the World Youth Day. Sergesketter has designed the patch for the past four years.
Morris Thomas, cubmaster at Good Shepherd’s pack in Evansville has chaired the Faith Day event for the past three years
Deacon Charles Koressell, chaplain for scouting in the Diocese of Evansville, said there are approximately 25 Cub Scout Packs registered with Catholic churches in the diocese —- and “There are that many, if not more, that are registered by other civic institutions and public schools.”
Deacon Koressell said there are at least 25 Boy Scout/Venturing units chartered by Catholic institutions along with one Team unit and one Ship Crew.
Upcoming events include the annual Boy Scout Retreat at St. Meinrad, March 12-14. Approximately 175 participants including adult leaders are expected.
On May 16, the Girl Scout Catholic Religious Emblem recognition will be held for the girls and adult leaders.
