Gratitude for condolences
Donna Gish, acting director of the diocesan Office for Adult Formation, has responded to the condolences and messages of sympathy she received on the occasion of the death of her father, March 15.
“Thank you to everyone for your condolences on the death of my dad, Earl Altmeyer,” Gish wrote. “He was a good man who taught me how to laugh and love life. Your support and prayers are very much appreciated.”
Program to cover Compassionate Healing
Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand are offering a program, “Compassionate Healing,” that will cover how to be a compassionate presence in a world that pulls us in many directions.
The program will be held Saturday, April 10, at Kordes Center in Ferdinand, Indiana. Check-in time is 8:30 a.m. EDT. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT. It will be presented by Sister Michelle Mohr, OSB, and Sister Anita Louise Lowe, OSB.
Topics will include healing in Scripture and in the Benedictine tradition, tracing the heritage of healing, and learning techniques for hands-on compassionate healing. The method offers a way to be present to persons through a gentle, prayerful touch, asking God’s light and love to fill that person with the healing grace needed.

Scholarships to be awarded by Memorial Hospital staff
In Jasper, Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center’s Medical Staff is awarding two $500 scholarships to area high school seniors.
To qualify, the applicant must be a high school senior entering a two- or four-year health related field. The applicant must also maintain at least a “B” (3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale) grade point average.
Scholarship applications are available in the guidance office at area high schools, or by calling Memorial Hospital’s Medical Staff Office at (812) 482-0675. Applications are due in the Medical Staff Office by June 15.
Sister ‘Meg” to celebrate 60th
Dominican Sister Margaret Mary “Meg” Majewski will celebrate her 60th jubilee in June 2010. A Mass will be held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa Mound on Sunday, June 6, for her and 25 other Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters celebrating 60 years. Her religious name was Sister Mary Loyola.
Sister Meg’s home parish is St. John the Baptist, Chicago. She is the daughter of the late Walter and the late Marie (Kulawas) Majewski. Sister Meg’s ministry has been dedicated to teaching and campus ministry. In the Diocese of Evansville, Sister Meg served as assistant professor of art at the University of Evansville, Evansville, 1980-1982.

Appointed at St. Mary’s Medical Center
Dr. John Nagel has been appointed the new Medical Director of the Emergency Depart-ment at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. He has been providing medical services in the St. Mary’s Emergency Department since July of 2007. He also serves as the Medical Director for St. Mary’s LifeFlight and is the Medical Director of the Scott Township Volunteer Fire Department in Vanderburgh County.
Dr. Timothy Almquist has assumed the role of Chief Medical Information Officer at St. Mary’s. He will be responsible for assisting and advising St. Mary’s physicians during the transition to electronic medical patient records. His long term assignment includes the improvement of medical care delivery through quality enhancements offered by the integration of secure medical information systems. These enhancements include connection of electronic medical records throughout the hospital, region, State and Federal levels.
Dr. Almquist has been providing medical services in the St. Mary’s Emergency Department since November of 2007. He previously served as Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy.
Easter Mass on TV
The Easter Vigil Mass with Pope Benedict XVI, live from St. Peter’s Square in Rome, will be transmitted on Saturday, April 3, at 3 p.m. EDT on cable systems carrying EWTN.
The Easter Vigil Mass, celebrated at the Ba-silica of the National Shrine of the Immac-ulate Conception in Washington, D.C., will be transmitted at 8 p.m. EDT on EWTN.
The Solemn Mass of Easter Sunday from the Vatican will be on EWTN on Sunday, April 4, at 4 a.m. EDT, and repeated at noon.
The pope’s Easter message and blessing will be seen at 6 a.m., and repeated at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
