Archbishop Buechlein to have surgery to remove tumor

“A recent medical checkup revealed that I have a small tumor that will need to be surgically removed,” wrote Archbishop Daniel M. Buechlein, O.S.B., in The Criterion, newspaper of the Archiodese of Indianapolis.

“The tumor is not related to the Hodgkin’s lymphoma that I had in 2008,” he continued. “My doctors believe the tumor is benign, and want to remove it as a precautionary measure.”

Archbishop Buechlein said he expects to have surgey in mid- or late-April.

“I’ve been told I may need four to five weeks of recovery time following the surgery. I regret the interruption this may cause in my normal obligations,” he said.

“I do not expect the day-to-day operations of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis to be greatly affected. We are blessed to have so many dedicated and hardworking clergy, religious and parish life coordinators as well as an excellent administrative staff. Our many ministries will continue as usual.”

Archbishop Buechlein concluded the brief statement with a request and a promise. “I would appreciate your prayers, and please know that I will continue to pray for all of you.”
