News from Petersburg
“Exciting things are happening at Sts. Peter and Paul in Petersburg!” writes Father Ryan Hilderbrand, associate pastor.
“There has been some light renovation completed over the last few months. Through the generosity of parishioners, we have installed six new chandeliers, a wood floor in the sanctuary, and new carpet in the nave.
“Work has begun on installing a handicapped-access ramp, which should be completed in the near future. All are invited to stop in and witness the great things the Lord is doing at his church in Petersburg!”
Anniversaries of ordination
Father Robert Nemergut, head chaplain at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility, was ordained to the priesthood April 22, 1977. His address is P.O. Box 432, Carlisle, IN 47838.
Father Eugene Schroeder, pastor of St. Joseph Church, Vanderburgh County, was or-dained to the priesthood April 27, 1979.

Trustees Distinguished Merit Award
Leah Weinzapfel, a University of Southern Indiana senior majoring in sociology and in-ternational studies, is the recipient of the 2010 Trustees Distinguished Merit Award, the highest honor presented to a University student during Honors Week.
A 2006 graduate of Mater Dei High School, she is the daughter of Tom and Marlene Weinzapfel of Mount Vernon.

Glasses
Carol Neisen’s fourth grade class at Westside Catholic School, Evansville, has collected 42 pairs of used glasses to be donated to the OneSight program sponsored by the local Lions Club.
OneSight is a non-profit organization dedicated to improve vision for those in need worldwide through outreach, research and education. The eyeglasses collected will be repaired and distributed to those in need.
Building bridges
Resurrection’s science teacher Laura Litwiler congratulated her students on a great job at USI for the bridge building competition! First place went to Sarah Claybon and Hunter Chancellor, whose bridge held 338 pounds! Second place winners were Allie Wink and Re-becca Higdon, and third place went to Katie Stagg and Taylor Mayer. Bridges had weight and structure requirements, and students learned engineering skills as they designed and built the bridges.
Poet
Congratulations to Mater Dei junior Matt Probert whose po-em, At Sunset Haiku, has been selected for publication in Vincennes University’s The Best of Autumn Voices 2009.
Agent of the Year
Bradley Schaefer, a parishioner of Holy Redeemer in Evansville and a member of K of C council 12541, has been named Agent of the Year 2010 by the Knights of Columbus Chad Lueken Agency of southern Indiana.
“The honor was awarded for sales and service excellence in production year 2009,” said Chad Lueken. “At the end of 2009 Mr. Schaefer was ranked 167 out of 1,249 K of C agents order-wide.”
Math Bowl
The Math Bowl team at Holy Family School, Jasper, has won eleventh in the state. Members include Tate Blessinger, Kate Hauersperger, Nick Freyberger, Kade Nicholson, Reece Beckman, Larry Burgess, Kendra Mehringer, Rachael Welsh, Nick Pieper, Olivia Krodel, Sarah Ackerman, Tessa Hemmerlein and Claire Eby.
