People We Care About
Following is a feature in the Message, designed to help draw together the People of God in southwestern Indiana. Readers are invited to submit information about people who may benefit by some extra prayers and attention.
• Julie Talley is requesting prayers for her aunt, Franciscan Sister Jean Wolf, who is “seriously ill in the nursing unit at the motherhouse in Oldenburg.”
“A native of St. Joseph Church, Vanderburgh County, she served 15 years as a chaplain at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. Her early ministry included 36 years in elementary schools, including four years at St. Wendel School in St. Wendel, eight years as principal of St. Agnes School in Evansville, and six years at St. Joseph School in Princeton..”

• Valada Theresa “Tater” DeWeese, 77, of Evansville, died April 19. She is the sister of Father Bernie Lutz, director of ministry to priests.
She was born to Sylverius and Olivia (Obert) Lutz in Snake Run.
Survivors include her 10 children: Sherry DeWeese, Terry DeWeese and Gary DeWeese, all of Evansville, Larry DeWeese of Haubstadt, Kerry “Sue” Price of Henderson, Ky., and Jerry “Joe” DeWeese, Barry “Bane” DeWeese, Perry “Peep” DeWeese, Lorry “Lyn” Rieckers and Derry DeWeese, all of Evansville, 21 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister, Betty Ann Titzer; brothers, Father Lutz of Snake Run and Vince Lutz of Cincinnati.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jerold E “J.D.” DeWeese.
The funeral liturgy was held April 22 at St. James Church in Haubstadt, with burial in the Obert family plot at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Snake Run.
