Worth Mentioning

Ruth’s House Yard Sale

A yard sale will be held on Saturday, April 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University of Evansville, in front of Moore Hall near Rotherwood.

All proceeds benefit Ruth’s House, a transitional women’s home in Evansville. The house closed last year since sponsors did not want to operate it in debt, and they have been raising funds since then. The doors will hopefully open soon, but they still need community help.

In the event of rain on Saturday, the yard sale will take place on the following Saturday, May 1.

A parenting pointer

Is your child dealing with NDD (Nature Deficit Disorder)? Continue the spirit of Earth Day by doing something outside with your child this weekend. Perhaps take a walk or hike together. Take along a bag and pick up litter as you go. Make it into a contest.

Also, back home, the traveler must write a 200-500 word essay about the trip for publication in local print media and visit a Maryknoll Lay Affiliate meeting to share your stories and photos.

Lay vocations, too

The U.S. Bishops’ Secretariat of Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations is initiating a new website on April 25 to be a resource for both laity and clergy in the promotion of vocations. The launch date is the World Day of Prayer for Vocations and Good Shepherd Sunday.

The site has two goals:

To help individuals hear and respond to the call by God to the priesthood or consecrated life, and

To educate all Catholics on the importance of encouraging others through prayer and activities to promote vocations.

The Vocations Website can be found at www.ForYourVocation.org. A Spanish-language site will be available this fall at www.PorTuVocacion.org.
