Worth Mentioning

Colette Kennett named director of ‘One Bread, One Cup’

Colette Kennett of Belleville, Ill., has been named the new director of the “One Bread, One Cup” program for youth liturgical leadership at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology.

The “One Bread, One Cup” program hosts five-day conferences on the St. Meinrad campus each summer for high school youth and their adult leaders. Focused on learning about Catholic faith and the liturgy and building community among Catholic youth, the conferences have served more than 2,300 youth and adults throughout the United States. The program also includes an annual six-week internship for about 20 college students.

In January 2010, Kennet received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Fed-eration for Catholic Youth Ministry, honoring her service and leadership in the field of Catholic youth ministry.

Kennett will retire this fall from the Diocese of Belleville, where she has been diocesan director of youth ministry for 30 years. She begins her new role at St. Meinrad on November 1.

Marriage site has a new look

The popular For Your Marriage website (www.foryourmarriage.org) has launched a redesigned look that includes additional content and several new features.  The website is a major activity under the U.S. bishops’ priority goal to strengthen marriage.

The redesigned site features a news magazine format, updated graphics and easier navigation. It retains such popular features as About Catholic Marriage, Daily Marriage Tips, Must-Have Conversations and Marriage Quizzes. It also provides a link so that people can find Catholic marriage information locally.

Among new features is the Marital Virtue of the Month, reflecting on a particular virtue that is necessary for a holy and happy marriage.

‘Grow One More’ to help your community

White Violet Center for Eco-Justice, a ministry of the Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, again is encouraging gardeners to “Grow One More” this garden season.

This program allows gardeners to make a difference in their communities by supplying fresh food or flowers to those who are without.

The “Grow One More” campaign encourages gardeners to grow one more plant, one more pound, one more bushel, one more ton for your neighbor, for the worker down the street who lost his or her job, for the local food bank, for the single parent on food stamps or for whoever needs a smile.

Participants are asked to grow one more plant, give it to someone in the area of most need, then notify Providence Sister Maureen Freeman at the end of the season with the weight of the produce and flowers; (812) 535-2930 or mfreeman@spsmw.org; indicate if you helped a person, a shelter or food bank.

Invasive species topic for nature workshop

“Invasive Plants and Our Forests: What’s the Big Deal?” That’s the theme for a workshop at St. Mary-of-the-Woods from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15.

Purdue foresters Don Carlson and Ron Rathfon join with Vigo County Parks superintendent Keith Ruble and Purdue University’s habitat specialist Matt Kraushar to provide important information on exotic invasive plants in Indiana.

Next week in the Message

“We’re not trying to scare the parents,” the technology director said. “We are just giving as much information as possible to help them make decisions about their children’s use of technology. Kids have no fear. Technology is so huge. You have to embrace technology but understand what technology can do.”
