Around the Diocese

Bramble update

Restoration continues at St. Joseph Church in Bramble following the Jan. 28 fire, according to Father Joseph Erbacher, pastor of the four Martin County churches.

“Yet to be completed is carpet installation, installation of window and cleaning of all windows, all the statues scheduled for returning third week of May, organ to be returned, electrical work, paint completion, and then pews all to be re-installed.”

He noted in the parish bulletin that “at earliest, do not see us returning to the church until early part of June.”

Road trip

In a letter to parents at St. Matthew School, Mount Vernon, Vickie Wannemuehler, principal, writes, “A few weeks ago, the teachers and I went on a road trip to visit Norwich Elementary.

“As you might recall, Norwich is a very successful multiage elementary school in Ohio. Each of our teachers was partnered with a teacher of his/her grade level and spent the day in that teacher’s classroom. We gathered massive amounts of information! We were able to experience the unique atmosphere of the school, observe the daily flow of their schedule, talk to the students to find out how they feel about attending a multiage school, and in some cases, even participate in the instruction.

“The Norwich teachers also shared some of their resources with us and gave us valuable suggestions as we prepare to pilot multiage classes here at St. Matthew. Perhaps most importantly, we established relationships and friendships with teachers that we will be able to communicate with throughout the year as questions arrive. It was a very valuable and worthwhile trip!”
