“The Youth Group has recently created a Facebook page where you can find the latest events, pictures, videos, discussions, and everything else you need to know!” writes Shirley Jeffers, youth minister at St. John Church, Loogootee.

“The URL is www.facebook.com/stjohnscatholicyouthgroup. It’s not just for kids! It is for chaperones, parents, adults and everyone else who wants to look at what is going on.

Father Donald Ackerman, a retired priest of the Diocese of Evansville, celebrates his birthday June 4. He is the social di-rector of retired priests. He re-sides at 310 W. 4th Street, Jasper, IN 47546.

Mark Wade, St. Joseph Church, Princeton, and Blessed Sacrament Church, Oakland City, celebrates his birthday June 5.

Anniversaries of ordination

Father Clemens Hut, a retired priest of the Diocese of Evansville, was ordained to the priesthood June 2, 1936. He resides at Friendship Village, 2525 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, AZ 85282.

Father Philip Kreilein, pastor of Resurrection Church, Evansville, was ordained to the priesthood June 2, 1974.

Father Ron Kreilein, pastor at St. Peter Celestine Church, Celestine, and St. Raphael Church, Dubois, was ordained to the priesthood June 2, 2007. On June 2, he will become pastor at St. Mary Church, Ireland.

Father Robert Deig, a retired priest of the Diocese of Evansville, was ordained to the priesthood June 3, 1950. He resides at the Little Sisters of the Poor Home in Evansville.

Father Eugene Schmitt, pastor at St. Bernard Church, Rockport, and St. Martin Church, Chrisney, was ordained to the priesthood June 3, 2000.

Father Gary Kaiser, pastor of Precious Blood Church, Jasper, was ordained to the priesthood June 3, 2006.

Father John Brosmer, pastor at St. Joseph Church, Dale, and St. Nicholas Church, Santa Claus, and moderator at Mary, Help of Christians Church, Mariah Hill, was ordained to the priesthood June 4, 2005.

Father Alex Zenthoefer diocesan director of Vocations, chaplain at Mater Dei and Memorial high schools, both in Evansville, and associate pastor at Holy Rosary Church, Evansville, was ordained to the priesthood June 4, 2005.

Father Bernie Etienne, pastor at Holy Rosary Church, Evansville, was ordained to the priesthood June 5, 1993.

Father Zach Etienne, pastor at Good Shepherd Church, Evansville, was ordained to the priesthood June 5, 2004.

Father Jason Gries, associate director of Vocations and pastor at Sacred Heart Church, Vincennes, and St. Philip Neri Church, Bicknell, was ordained to the priesthood June 5, 2004.

Father John Silva, pastor at St. John Church, Daylight, was ordained to the priesthood June 5, 2004.

Father Henry Kuykendall, pastor of Nativity Church, Evansville, was ordained to the priesthood June 6, 1986.

Father Gordon Mann, pastor of Our Lady of Hope Church, Washington, was ordained to the priesthood June 6, 1992.

Father Ryan Hilderbrand, associate pastor at St. Peter Church, Montgomery, All Saints Church, Cannelburg, and Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Peters-burg, was ordained to the priesthood June 6, 2009.

Father Thomas Kessler, pastor of St. Philip Church, Posey County, was ordained to the priesthood June 7, 1975.

Hospitality Commission

Laura Marsch and Ann Friedman are co-chairpersons of the Hospitality Commission at Holy Cross Church, Fort Branch.

Young Authors

Mater Dei High School junior Jordan Niemeier has been named one of 14 Honorable Mention finalists in the Columbia College Chicago Young Auth-ors 2010 writing competition.

Susan Brinkman, CRE at St. Nicholas Church, Santa Claus, celebrates her birthday June 3.

Hop-n-ing

The first and second grade students at St. John the Baptist School, Newburgh, participated in the HOP-N-ING to raise money for the Easter Seals telethon. The students collected pledges for the number of times they could hop in three minutes.

Ben Janney was the top earner in second grade, and Cadence Rasche was the top earner for first grade. They appeared on Channel 25 with Brad Byrd at the telethon at the Rehabilitation Center to present a check for $2,325.04.

Math team

“Our Math Academic Bowl Team placed ninth in the State,” reports Angie Johnson, principal at Resurrection School, Evansville.

Team members include Laura Berendes, Trevor Dale, Megan Farny, Dana Hunt, Ariel Kuhn, Reed Olivey and Hannah Ubelhor.

Serra Club awards

Nick Kiesel and Jennifer Riedford from Holy Cross Church in Fort Branch and Taryn Goedde and Alexis Kiesel of Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Haubstadt are 2010 Serra Club Youth Award winners.

Bob Naas from the Evansville Serra Club presented the awards to them during the final religious education class for the year.

“By their commitment and leadership, they serve as role models to their peers,” said Laura Goedde, CRE. “We thank them for their service, and we thank their parents for teaching them the importance of serving God and others.”

Finalists

Good Shepherd students Lauren Hayden, Chad Barron and Meaghan Davis are finalists in the VFW Patriot Pen Essay Contest.
