Politics 2010: Message advertising policy revised
Message policy on political advertising
As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Message must follow the rules of the Internal Revenue Service in regard to political activity.
Since 1970, the Message has accepted political advertising in accord with IRS rules. If the Message accepted advertising from one candidate or party, the Message had to accept advertising from all candidates and parties.
As of 2010, the Message does not accept political advertising.
Diocesean policy on political activities
According to diocesan policy, any materials used or distributed in parishes or schools must originate from one of three sources: the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Indiana Catholic Conference or the Diocese of Evansville.
Political news
The Message will continue to publish news articles about candidates and issues, from local reports and from Catholic News Service.
