Tuition Assistance Fund names new executive director

The Tuition Assistance Fund of Southwestern Indiana has named Margaret Boarman as executive director. This Scholarship Granting Organization will be providing scholarships for students attending the private school of their choice in Southwestern Indiana.
Boarman held the position of President of Evansville ARC from 1990 through 2002. She has served in various mentoring and fund raising capacities for a number of local nonprofit organizations. A 2002 ATHENA honoree, she received the Life-time Achievement Award from Leadership Evansville in 2003. She was a teacher at St. James School, Haubstadt, Marian Day School in Evansville and St. Mary School, Huntingburg, where she also held the position of principal.
In her new position, Boarman will oversee the fundraising and scholarship granting for students attending an accredited private school for the first time.
The Tuition Assistance Fund of Southwestern Indiana is one of three Scholarship Granting Organizations in the state of Indiana. Donors may receive a 50 percent Indiana State tax credit for contributions to the organization.
Applicants for scholarship assistance must have an annual family income of not more than 200 percent of the amount required for the federal free or reduced price lunch program and be enrolling in an accredited private school for the first time (including kindergarten) within the 12-county area of southwestern Indiana served by the organization.
The Board of Directors of the Tuition Assistance Fund represents the private schools within southwestern Indiana. They are Andrew Krempp, Kevin Clark, Helen Christian, Mark Samila, and Lacy Haller. According to Andrew Krempp, board chair, “Margaret’s extensive background and experience in the areas of education and nonprofit leadership make her an excellent choice for this new position. She brings a high level of knowledge and commitment to assisting students with the choice of private education.”

Tuition Assistance Fund of Southwestern Indiana, Inc.
The Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO), now legally named the Tuition Assistance Fund of Southwestern Indiana, Inc, has received final approval from the Internal Revenue Service and the Indiana Department of Education. Margaret Boarman has been hired as the part-time director for the organization.
The Tuition Assistance Fund of Southwestern Indiana, Inc is a state tax credit program designed to assist low and middle in-come families in attending the statutorily eligible private school of their choice. Donors to the scholarship fund will receive a 50 percent tax credit against the taxpayer’s state tax liability.
It is impossible to determine, at this point, what funding will be available for scholarships for the 2010-2011 school year, or the amount of the scholarships. However, the Board of Directors is determined to provide at least a minimal scholarship to eligible students in order to insure their eligibility for subsequent years.
To qualify eligible students for the 2010-2011 academic year, it is critical to receive applications by July 1, 2010.
