Exceptional careers in Washington

The Washington Catholic School Board would like to recognize the exceptional careers of two elementary school teachers who recently announced their retirement.

Martha Padgett has taught in Washington Catholic School for the past 44 years in grades one through four.

Educated at St. John School in Loogootee, she received her bachelor’s degree from Oakland City University and her master’s degree from Indiana State University.

“I am most grateful to have taught in a school where I have been able to pass on my Catholic faith on a daily basis,” she said.

Bonnie Werne graduated from the University of Evansville in 1969 and received her master’s degree in elementary education from Indiana State University.

She has taught elementary grades one, three and five over the past 32 years. She and her husband, Jim, have three children who graduated from Washington Catholic.

“It has been a joy and a blessing to teach at Washington Catholic.” She plans to enjoy time with her six grandchildren.
