Angie Johnson named principal at St. James School, Haubstadt
By MARY ANN HUGHES (Message staff writer)
Angie Johnson, principal at Resurrection School, Evansville, has been named principal at St. James School in Haubstadt, according to Donna Halverson, diocesan director of schools.
A search is underway for the principal’s position at Resur-rection, and also at the recently open principal’s position at Holy Spirit School in Evansville.
Other recent developments in-clude posts in Jasper and at Mater Dei High School in Evansville. As was reported in the Message June 4, Sally Stern-berg will be the new principal at Holy Family School in Jasper, and Christopher Tanner will be Mater Dei’s new principal.
“Angie will be moving closer to home to assume the principalship at St. James School,” Halverson said.
“Please keep these new leaders in your prayers as they prepare this summer for their new roles!”
Johnson received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Purdue University in 1988, and her master’s degree from Indiana State University in 1994. Her administration degree is also from ISU.
“I taught at Sts. Peter and Paul in Haubstadt for 15 years,” she said. “While there I taught fourth grade, kindergarten through grade five music, kindergarten and fifth grade religion, and was the technology coordinator.
“I played the organ at all school Masses and conducted several musical programs throughout the years.”
Johnson said she has “bittersweet feelings about the move to St. James. On one hand I am so excited and happy to be moving there and getting to work with an amazing group of teachers and staff. It will bring me quite a bit closer to home, and I am looking forward to the short 10 minute drive to school. I look forward to working with people that I know from the past, growing up in Haubstadt. I have always admired St. James’ beautiful country setting and dedicated parishioners and their families.
“On the other hand, leaving Resurrection is like leaving part of my family behind. I have come to know and love the faculty, staff and students like a parent loves their own family. It brings tears to my eyes every time I think about leaving them.
“I have to remember that this is God’s plan for me, and I ap-preciate the years I had at Resurrection. They helped me learn and grow into the principal that I am today. I thank God every day for their support and encouragement through this process.”
