People We Care About

Following is a feature in the Message, designed to help draw together the People of God in southwestern Indiana. Readers are invited to submit information about people who may benefit by some extra prayers and attention.

Marie Dolores “Dee” Mann of Evansville died June 20. She is the mother of Father Gordon Mann, pastor at Our Lady of Hope Church in Washington.

One of nine children, Dee was born on the Feast of All Saints, November 1, 1923, in Lawrence, Mass., to Desire and Leda (LaBelle) Therrien.

She contributed to the cause of winning World War II by working in the shipyards of Boston, and it was during this time that she met her husband, Carl.

They married in Lawrence on September 1, 1945, and eventually settled in Evansville; Carl had been raised in nearby Mount Vernon.

She was a woman of great faith in Jesus. Her focus was in life with Him and in her family. She served the Church in many capacities, and taught her seven children to also do the same.

Survivors also include her husband, Carl; daughters Susanne Walters of North Port, Fla., Michelle Tenbarge of Evansville, and Melanie Holmes of Fort Branch; sons Carl W. Mann II of Newburgh, Kimberly Mann of Worcester, Mass, and Miles Mann of Evansville; 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on June 24 at Holy Spirit Church, with her son, Father Mann officiating.
