Ordinary Times
“With the end of the Easter season, the Church moves into Ordinary Times in which there are no special events, the use of incense, or the sprinkling rite,” writes Father John Brosmer, pastor at St. Joseph Church, Dale, and St. Nicholas Church, Santa Claus, and sacramental minister at Mary, Help of Christians Church in Mariah Hill.
“You might ask the question ‘why does the Church move into slow motion while our lives move into the fast lane?’ The summer season and the end of the school year always accelerates our lives. We attend ball games; we have yard work; we do spring and summer house cleaning; we have family cookouts; we take vacations.
“The summer is full of activities before we start the season. What time do we have left in a day after all the activities? Where do I find the time for God?
“All of our busyness sometimes places Christ at the bottom of the list. It seems that if we do have any spare time, we tend to take that time for ourselves.”
He encouraged his parishioners to “break away from busy schedules and count on the Holy Spirit to redirect our thinking and slow us down.” He added, “Could we take 30 minutes a day and make a connection with God? That short time may pay great dividends in our relationship with God and others.”
