Gossip, pregnancy and abortion tackled in youth group musical

In the original summer youth musical by Jacob Sellers and Anna Bittner, the character Karen finds she is pregnant as a high school senior. The show follows her and tells her story as she experiences God’s love, hope, forgiveness and peace while learning from her mistakes and asking God for help.
The production is being presented this weeekend by members of the St. Maria Goretti Catholic Youth Group at Sts. Peter and Paul School cafeteria in Haubstadt.
“The show addresses issues relevant to today’s teens, including gossip, teen pregnancy and abortion,” according to the bulletin announcement published for the parishes of Sts. Peter and Paul, Holy Cross Church in Fort Branch and St. Bernard Church in Snake Run.
Jen Blackstone is the youth ministry coordinator of the St. Maria Goretti Catholic Youth Group.
The cast includes Brittany Grau, Tara Sorg, Nick Sellers, Olivia Mayer, Courtney Michel, Jill Sorg, Vince Bowden, Hailie Klueg, Jackie Goedde, Cecilia Hall, Melinda Weiss, Amy Michel, Kate Bittner, Anna Sorg, Jennifer Riedford, Sara Kissel, Veronica Bittner, Kate Sorg, Alexis Kiesel, Faith Winchel, Jacob Sellers, Anna Bittner and Xander Winchel. In the orchestra are Jennifer Riedford, Alison Goedde, Anna Bittner and Sam Weiss.
Doors open Friday night at 6 p.m. for a dinner theatre presentation, with dinner at 6:15 and the show at 7 p.m. Seating is reserved.
Saturday’s production, theatre only, will begin at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30, with general admission tickets at $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under. Saturday tickets will be sold up until performance time.
Sunday’s presentation will again include dinner, with reserved seating. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with dinner served at noon and the show beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children ages 12 and under.
