Interim principals named for Washington Catholic schools
By MARY ANN HUGHES (Message staff writer)
The three Catholic schools in Washington now have two interim principals for the 2010-2011 school year, according to Daryl Hagan, diocesan superintendent of schools.
Jeanne Heltzel, retired principal from Holy Family School in Jasper, and Gerry Adams, retired principal from Memorial High School in Evansville, will serve as administrators at Washington Catholic elementary, middle and high schools.
Hagan said “Jeanne will lead grades pre-k through five while Gerry will lead grades six through 12. This structure provides the opportunity for their schools in the spring to begin the process to hire a new principal which would begin with the 2011-2012 school year.”
He added, “I am grateful to Gerry and Jeanne for coming out of retirement to share their time and talent with Washington Catholic.” Heltzel served as principal at the Jasper school for 10 years. Adams served as principal at Memorial High School for 26 years.
David Memmer, principal at the three Washington schools since 2007, is the new principal at Holy Spirit School in Evansville.
This year, there are many new faces in administrative positions throughout the Diocese of Evansville.
Hagan, as the new diocesan superintendent, has two new assistants, Donna Halverson and Michelle Priar.
The two Evansville high schools, Mater Dei and Memorial, have executive directors. Timothy “Tad” Dickel is now the executive director at Memorial, and Ken Schultheis is the executive director at Memorial. Christopher Tanner is the new principal at Mater Dei.
New Evansville principals include David Memmer, Holy Spirit School, Theresa Berendes, Resurrection School, and Nancy Mills, St. Theresa School, Evansville.
Angie Johnson is the new principal at St. James School in Haubstadt, and Sally Sternberg is the new principal at Holy Family School in Jasper.
