St. Vincent Day Care Center, now in its ninety-second year of service, has received a new name and logo. It will now be known as St. Vincent Center for Children and Families.
Daughter of Charity Sister Brenda Fritz, executive director, said the new name and logo will reflect children and families as partners in early childhood education.
“We’re here today because it’s a new chapter in the life of St. Vincent’s, a new chapter built on a solid legacy of charity through education because St. Vincent’s is on the journey, becoming the premier faith-based early childhood center in southwestern Indiana.”
The center, founded in 1918, is continuing the vision of its founders, The Ladies of Charity, in providing affordable child care to the working families who need it most.
It has been sponsored by the Daughters of Charity since its beginnings, and subsidizes an average of $50 per week, per child, providing them affordable, safe, high-quality child care. Over 150 children are served daily, ages six weeks to six years. Eighty-eight percent of the children and families live in poverty.
St. Vincent’s earned accreditation from the National Asso-ciation for the Education of Young Children in April of 2010 and is at Level 4 (top level) on Paths to Quality (Indiana’s voluntary rating scale for early childhood centers).
