Three project coordinators have been hired to continue the Differentiated Instruction training for diocesan teachers initiated by Indiana University in 2007.

Marian Educational Outreach launched Project Outreach, funded by Welborn Baptist Foundation, to offer Differentiated Instruction training to every teacher in the diocese. Since 2007, Project Outreach has provided Differentiated Instruction training to all of the teachers in 14 schools.

For the first three years, Indiana University trained approximately 170 teachers in thirteen schools. In May 2010, MEO hired three diocesan teacher leaders to assume the training responsibility and to manage the project into the future.

This past summer, St. Matthew School in Mount Vernon was the fourteenth school to join the DI Team.

The participating schools also include St. Philip, Posey County; St. Joseph, Vanderburgh County; St. Wendel, St. Wendel; St. Jospeh, Princeton; Sts. Peter and Paul, and St. James, in Haubstadt, and the Evansville schools of Christ the King, Holy Rosary, Corpus Christi, Holy Redeemer, Holy Spirit, Mater Dei and Memorial.

Project Outreach was well represented at the 2010 Indiana Non-Public School Education Association (INPEA) conference in Indianapolis. Gina Tucker from Memorial High Schools and Erin Griffieth from Corpus Christi presented “Assessing, Evaluating and Grading with Differentiation in Mind.” Keri Spahn, from St. Joseph and Roseann Wilson from Holy Redeemer presented “Differentiated Instruction in Physical Education.”

It is the goal of the project to recruit additional schools each academic year until all schools in the diocese are involved, according to Bev Williams, MEO director of development.

MEO is currently conducting its 2011 Annual Giving Campaign. Contributors may call (812) 402-6700 to make a donation or send a check to Marian Educational Outreach, 520 S. Bennighof, Evansville, IN 47714.
