Editor’s note: The following information was provided by the public relations office of St. Mary’s Health System.
St. Mary’s Mobile Dental Care for Kids in Evansville recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. The Mobile Dental Clinic was added to St. Mary’s Outreach Services in October 2000 in an effort to provide preventive and restorative dental care for children who might not otherwise receive these services
St. Mary’s Mobile Dental Care for Kids was created to better serve the children of our community who are without “dental homes” — a vision that continues to this day with an emphasis on those who face various barriers to receiving dental care. St. Mary’s is able to reach more children by treating kids on-site at area schools and other agency locations.
In 2009, the Mobile Dental Clinic had over 2,900 patient contacts. The expectation is treatment of over 3,000 kids in 2010 — a significant increase from 1,240 patient contacts in 2001.
St. Mary’s Mobile Dental Care for Kids is a fully functioning dental office with seven dentists — Dr. John Wittgen, Dr. Julie Collins, Dr. James Alex Rang, Dr. John Anos-key, Dr. Ken Dilger, Dr. Bob Janow-ski and Dr. Jay Craig.
Those without insurance are assisted with applying for Hoosier Healthwise insurance and a payment plan is provided for those who cannot afford to pay up front. St. Mary’s Mobile Dental Care for Kids strives to provide a positive dental experience for the children served in Southern Indiana.
Ten years of service to the community have been possible thanks to the collaboration between the Mobile Dental Clinic, local schools, agencies and dental practitioners in both Vanderburgh and Warrick counties.
Procedures performed on the Mobile Dental Clinic include: X-rays, exams, teeth cleanings, seal-ants, crowns and extractions. St. Mary’s staff works with other local dental providers to perform additional procedures when necessary.
