Memorial’s academic decathlon team earns second in state

Members of the academic decathlon team have earned second place in state competition.

In the nearly 30 years that school academic teams have been competing, Memorial has gone to state every year. This year the team won first place in music, essay and language and literature categories.

In the category of art, An-drew Lasher and Marshall Howell received bronze; Jill-ian Belmonte earned silver; Danielle Harpe received gold.

Jillian Belmonte earned gold and Danielle Harpe placed silver in Music.

The bronze medal went to Larry Durchholz in mathematics.

In social science both Dan-ielle Harpe and Emily Grimwood earned bronze.

Andrew Lasher and Marsh-all Howell won silver in interview.

In the category of speech Larry Durchholz won gold, and Emily Grimwood took bronze.

The essay gold medal went to Andrew Lasher and the bronze to Jillian Belmonte.

Economics medals were earned by Andrew Lasher, sil-ver, and Jillian Belmonte, bronze.

In language and literature, Jillian Belmonte ranked gold, Marshall Howell, silver, and both Emily Grimwood and Rachel McGill got bronze.

Jillian Belmonte took the bronze medal in superquiz.

Special recognition goes to Larry Durchholz, one of six students in the entire competition chosen to present his original speech in the showcase, and to Danielle Harpe who earned an overall silver medal for her performance in the entire competition. Jillian Belmonte earned the highest award, a gold me-dal, for her success through the 10 events.
