The Rivet Lady Patriots gave the Vincennes Catholic community their first state championship in school history.

The Lady Patriots also became the first Indiana Class A team to finish a season without a loss, completing an undefeated, 28-0 season for coach Tim Young.

The team held off the Turkey Run Lady Warriors to win the Class A state title, 49-40, March 5 at Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.

Mallory Niehaus, with 17 points and nine rebounds, was one of six Rivet seniors competing in their third consecutive state championship game. Casandra Brocksmith added 11 points.

Evansville Memorial scored the first seven points in overtime, on their way to a 58-50 victory over Benton Central and the school’s first girls basketball state championship.

Natalie Cohlmeyer, scoreless during regulation, put in six points to lead the Tigers in their overtime win. Mallory Ladd finished the game with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Ladd, along with Anna Hackert and Marie Hackert, also provided double-digit rebounds.

The Tigers wrapped up their year with a 28-1 record for head coach Bruce Dockery.
