Bishop-elect Charles C. Thompson, vicar general of the Archdiocese of Louisville, met many of his staff-members-to-be at Sarto Retreat House in Evansville for Mass and breakfast, just hours before he was formally announced at a news conference.
He chose St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville as the site of the announcement, where he was introduced to diocesan clergy and others in parish and school leadership positions.
His first public comments were made in the presence of the current and retired archbishops of Louisville and the student body of St. Benedict Catholic School.
His opening statement included comments in Spanish.
He chose as his motto, “Christ the Cornerstone.”
