“The sisters are such a joy,” says Marty Horning, a long-time Evansville Serra Club member, who has been a key person during the 25 years of the “Sisters’ Night Out” celebrations.
Marty and her late husband Fritz came up with the idea for the event which includes bowling and pizza, time for board games — and lots and lots of gifts.
“Every sister from the diocese was sent an invitation to attend,” she said, “and we estimate that there were some 120 sisters present.”
Bo McFall from Channel 25 came to take a video and interview a few of the sisters. “He actually met up with his kin-dergarten teacher at St. The-resa School from 30 years ago, Sister Mary Andre Gettelfin-ger.”
During the party, each sister received a $25 gift card to Target, and the “gift section looked like a Target store. Many sisters received more than one gift as we gave out gifts until all were gone.”
The Evansville Serra Club also remembered the infirm sisters at Monastery Immacu-late Conception in Ferdinand “with items that they can use.”
Horning said of the evening, “The sisters left Willow Bowling Center laden with gifts and some good memories to last them throughout the year.
“They always say as they leave ‘see you next year.’ The sisters love this night and everyone of them say that this is their ‘event of the year.’”
