Resurrection students gather in prayer following death of first grader

On Wednesday morning, the last day of school at Resurrection School in Evansville, students, faculty and parents were gathered together for a prayer service.

They were there to remember first grader Kendal Murphy who “lost her fight for life on May 24 at Kosairs Hospital in Louisville,” according to Donna Halverson, assistant superintendent of schools.

“She was life-flighted there over the weekend. She has been a very sick little girl over the last week.”

Halverson was at Resurrection on May 24 “as the students said a rosary for Kendal before the last school Mass of the year, and many prayers were said for her recovery.”

The student died later in the day, and the parish held a prayer service that evening. A team of Youth First social workers were on hand to talk with students and parents as needed on May 25, she said.
