By MARY ANN HUGHES (Message staff writer)

Lori Wissel, a long-time teacher at Flaget Elementary School in Vincennes, has been named its principal for the 2011-2012 school year.

“It is with great pleasure that I take the position of principal at Flaget Elementary,” she said. “I have a deep love and appreciation for the Vincennes Catholic schools. I attended grade school and high school in the Vincennes Catholic schools and later was hired as a teacher at Flaget Elementary. I have spent the past 26 years as a classroom teacher.”

She is a member of St. Vincent Church in Vincennes; she has been married for 23 years to Jeffrey Wissel and they have one child, Connor. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana State University.

“Flaget has a rich history of academic excellence. This is a result of a dedicated staff and above all dedicated parents. One of the goals of our school is to foster a sense of community. We maintain positive and open communication. We invite parents, grandparents and interested members of the community to be involved in our school.”

A second goal is to “build on the excellence in education that has been provided to students throughout the years at Flaget. We stress the importance of academic success for all Flaget students. Flaget is a great school. We will concentrate on the best ways to teach the curriculum and standards. We will continue to broaden the use of technology to enhance instruction.

“Finally, we stress the importance of giving our children the faith and love of Jesus. With this faith, they can build a bright future for our community and our world. Our hope is to allow our students to have a strong preparation spiritually. This will help them be ready to face the future with confidence.”
