Mother Teresa Service Award recipients serve people in need
Editor’s note: Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Evansville honored parish-nominated recipients of Mother Teresa Service Awards May 19. The Message continues a series of articles, with biographical material provided by Catholic Charities.
Paul and Susie Ficker
Holy Family, Jasper
Holy Family is blessed by the caring and dedicated service of Paul and Susie Ficker. Their steadfast faith and love of God are evident by their words and actions. They are Eucharistic Ministers to the homebound and serve on our Bereavement Committee. They also volunteer at the Nursing Home and Cancer Center, and are advocates for people with special needs. Their focus in life is their compassion and concern for others.
Mary Kathryn (Kitty) Gilles
St. Anthony, Evansville
Since 1951, Kitty Gilles has been volunteering in the community and in the parish. From serving on the Catholic Charities Board for ten years to working with the St. Vincent de Paul Society at a time when women were not allowed to participate, Kitty has always been a service leader. In 1976, she began the SPRED Program and is the director today. She was a leader in starting our Soup Kitchen. She had the largest Justice Network at a CAJE Action. Overall, Kitty has been involved in over 30 ministries in the parish. We thank her for showing us how to reach out to the disadvantaged and how to live a life of service.
