“The public square in downtown Loogootee was filled with area Catholics and concerned citizens recently, all praying for our beloved United States of America,” said Tracey Burch.
The rally was at noon, Oct. 15.
“Around 60 people gathered for a public recitation of the Holy Rosary, imploring the Blessed Mother to come to the aid of our country, as human efforts to solve our problems have been unable to do so,” Burch said.
The group also prayed the Litany of Loretto and St. Maximillian Kolbe’s solemn Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and other prayers.
Burch pointed out that the Mother of God, the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of the Immaculate Conception, is the official patroness of our country.
A banner with an image of the Blessed Virgin was attached to a fence.
After the photograph was developed, “the shadows of the chain link fence across her holy face and the caption reminded me of how God and our Christian religion in particular are slowly being chained by oppressive laws in the name of tolerance and separation of Church and state. But there is no chaining the Word of God!” Burch said.
“The beautiful weather reminded us of God’s love for us all. The sweet singing voices of those who led our hymns were also cause to thank our Heavenly Father for His many gifts. The event was meant to emphasize the importance of being physically present in public prayer to Almighty God. Our Christian faith is a public faith that requires public witness. We don’t hide our light under a bushel basket, but let it shine for all to see.”
