Memorial Hospital sponsoring women’s health event

A special morning devoted to women’s health is planned for Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Huntingburg Event Center. Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center’s “Women of the Heartland” will feature cardiologist Dr. Mary Walsh, of Indianapolis, who is a nationally recognized expert on women and heart disease. Her keynote speech will be “Heart Disease in Women: Am I at Risk?”

Dr. Walsh earned both her undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Minnesota and completed her internship and residency at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas. She completed her cardiology fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Her areas of expertise include nu-clear cardiology, heart failure and cardiac transplantation with a special interest in women and heart disease. She serves as medical director of the Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation Programs and as direc-tor of Nuclear Cardiology at St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana and is a clinical associate professor of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine.

The event will also include presentations by Dr. Amy Camp-bell, family physician, regarding “Women’s Eating Disorders,” and Dr. Kristin Werne, OB/GYN, concerning “Meno-pause and Hormone Replacement Therapy: What are the Risks?” Participants may choose one of three breakout sessions presented by physical therapist Shala Cunningham regarding “Urinary Incontinence and Non-surgical Treatment Op-tions,” dietitian Erin Meyer addressing “Ten Ways to Keep Your Heart Healthy,” and Jill Memmer, health/fitness specialist, who will present “Move 3 Every 60!” Dr. Adam Dawkins, cardiologist with Heartland Cardiology Associates, will serve as moderator.

Pre-registration is required and may be made by registering online at www.mhhcc.org or by calling Memorial Hospital’s Community Relations department at 812-996-2352. Women who pre-register by January 9 will receive a gift certificate for free blood screening including total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, and blood glucose at Memorial Hospital’s Outpatient Lab. Light refreshments will be served.  

In lieu of an admission fee, donations will be accepted for the Integrative Medicine program at the Phillip R. Dawkins Heart and Vascular Center at Memorial Hospital.
