Recipes wanted for publication in the Message

By PAUL R. LEINGANG (Message editor)

What’s your best recipe for a Friday in Lent?

The Message will collect recipes from readers for publication, Friday, March 2.

Several Catholic newspapers in the United States have collected and published recipes over the years. They have included everything from soup to nuts — Mexican Bean Soup to Lenten Nut Cake, to be specific. And in between, recipes have included Pierogies and Cab-bage, Shrimp with Orzo and Spinach Quiche.

What’s your favorite? Are you will ing to share it and compare it with other favorites?

We are asking for reader contribution in three categories, all meatless of course.

  • Heritage recipe — something handed down over generations in your family. Include a family story with the recipe if you can — perhaps how your great aunt put in the wrong spices and created a new taste sensation.
  • The recipe you have been searching for — a favorite from your childhood, but lost. Describe the meal you remember and we’ll ask our readers to search their files and boxes.
  • Quick, inexpensive and healthy for today — a “no complaint from the kids” recipe. (Or at least healthy, no matter what the kids think.)

Send your recipes to the Message. Email message@evdio.org, or mail to Recipes in the Message, P.O. Box 4169, Evansville, IN 47724-0169. Include your name, parish and town.
