Bishop Charles C. Thompson visits pre-K students at St. Vincent DePaul Center for Children and Families on Feb. 28 to share the story “Pete the Cat.”  Bishop Thompson joined other local leaders to promote the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day by reading to the students.

After sharing the story, Bishop Thompson spent time answering the students’ questions.  As he patiently explained what he did and what his job entailed, students excitedly asked if he got to eat food at weddings and if he works at the library as well as in the church.

Later in the day, students received copies of the book to take home and keep.  More than 750 books were distributed throughout the center to promote literacy.

In 2018, the St. Vincent DePaul Center for Women and Families will celebrate 100 years of helping to connect families with resources.  Launched during WWI as an outreach program to support women in the workplace, St. Vincent DePaul Centers offer quality childcare and educational services for primarily to low-income families.
